We're thrilled to announce that the first edition of KBBQ (Korea Base Builders Quad) has wrapped up! For the past 8 weeks, our passionate study group has been taking their first steps into the onchain world through Base Learn.
KBBQ stands for Korea Base Builders Quad. (And yes, we actually grilled Korean BBQ too! 😋)
The first edition kicked off with the motto "even non-developers can do it!" We met every other Tuesday online to check our progress, and had a final meetup offline with actual KBBQ, to build connections while learning together. Nothing beats discussing the past two months of our journey while grilling some delicious samgyeopsal!
To wrap up the first edition of KBBQ, we'd like to highlight the journey of Sungu, who maintained his passion throughout and completed the entire Base Learn curriculum. Let's hear about his experience!
Q: Could you give the Base Community a quick self-introduction?
"Hello, I'm Sungu, a participant in the first edition of KBBQ."
Q: What made you join the KBBQ program?
"I wanted to restart the Solidity basics track and get familiar with Hardhat. I was looking to deepen my understanding of blockchain technology and apply it to actual development."
Q: Did you have any Web3 experience before joining?
"I had some limited experience building an NFT marketplace. What I remember most is how challenging it was to guide our Korean users, who had no prior Web3 experience, through installing wallets and understanding how they work. User experience was always the biggest challenge."
Q: What are your overall impressions after completing the Base Learn course?
"The last day was the most impressive. I got to hear thoughts from the community organizers and professionals leading projects in the field. There's nothing more helpful than that kind of direct insight. It motivated me to participate in future Base Seoul meetups."
Q: What parts were difficult and what parts were easier than expected?
"My knowledge was limited outside of the basic ways to use Solidity. Things like efficiently removing arrays or using assembly require a lot of practice to become familiar with. Thanks to our mentor's help and the extra time I invested, I was able to progress smoothly."
Q: How did the Telegram chat and online/offline meetings impact your learning?
"When studying alone, I tend to struggle with schedule management. Meeting together with other participants and the facilitator, both online and offline, allowed me to share and understand the learning process better. Also, our mentor kindly answered questions about the parts I got stuck on from a beginner's perspective, which was incredibly helpful for progressing through the learning steps."
Q: Do you have any ongoing projects?
"I've launched a social web game and P2P trading service as my own projects, but after recognizing my limitations, I'm now working with a company that has character IP to develop a game together. Currently, I'm finalizing work on app advertising and diversifying in-game currency systems. We're planning to launch in 1-2 months and create it as a Frame on Warpcast."
Q: Any ideas you'd like to implement in the Base ecosystem?
"The atmosphere of the Base chain that I experienced on Warpcast encourages real communication between people, and this direction aligns well with what I'm pursuing, which is why I'm building in the Base ecosystem. The idea I'd like to implement is creating bundled transactions for meme tokens or NFTs using a relayer-based meta-transaction approach with no transaction fees. In the future, I plan to use this trading method to enhance usability when launching web games or apps in collaboration with other companies."
Q: Do you have any feedback or suggestions for the Base team or Base Seoul?
"While participating in KBBQ and Base Seoul meetups, I strongly felt their determination to connect with builders, and I was impressed by their efforts to grow together with builders through meetups. I think it would be great if Base Seoul continues to provide opportunities to hear sessions from capable builders in the Base ecosystem, as they're doing now. Also, I think it would be beneficial to have events like hackathons where many builders can participate."
Q: Any advice for others interested in KBBQ or Base Seoul events?
"There's no better opportunity than talking with various professionals in blockchain technology. At KBBQ and Base Seoul events, you'll find many such opportunities. Don't hesitate to take the plunge!"
--------------
We're grateful to Sungu for sharing his sincere experiences with KBBQ! Thank you for the insightful conversation.
This edition had various challenges and learning curves as I, a non-developer, facilitated it. But we've learned a lot from this experience. We've realized the importance of continuous motivation in the learning process and structured curriculum, which we'll actively incorporate into the next season.
We're especially excited to announce that Dokin, who provided invaluable mentorship in this edition, and Rae, who will help with community building, will be leading the next program. With their expertise and community experience, you can expect a much more robust program! 💪 We'll share more details in April.
Everyone interested in the Base ecosystem is welcome!
